Schliemann's Tiramisu
For those of you that love to have a sweet snack but perhaps are too lazy to make a decent cake. I propose – a vegan alternative.
For three years I was a strict vegan. Remember – never take up a decision like this lightly. It is not just "let's not eat meat". Today I enjoy fish (it is a different kingdom), eggs and dairy.
Well but it is not about me. Beating the yolks and whites. I do not know. Besides, I already burnt a mixer and two blenders trying that (or it was the paper pulp).
In my "tiramisu-like" there is: semolina, coffee, coconut shreds and biscuits – you do not need to buy the super original Italian biscuits, you can also try any. In Poland there are 'Janda' finger cream puffs. Look in the local delicatesy. My she-cat loves them. The puffy ones, with sugar.
Why ala Schliemann?
Johann Schliemann searched for and discovered Troia in the period of 1870–1890. The legendary city described by Homer. In the beginning he was digging only in a small area, trying to reach down as far as possible. But then, he realised he must use a different approach. He was an amateur. It had to be discovered step by step, using small brushes. Not to destroy anything along the way.
Thanks to his patience, he managed to discover seven layers of the city. He also discovered and named the Minoan culture of Greece. He discovered Palace of Knossos. It was recreated by him – recreating the painted wall decorations. A practise of an amateur – it is now colorised. He also discovered a treasure of Prim and the famous golden mask of the Agamemnon.
Tiramisu.
Italian dessert. No baking, no frying. What you need to do is cook semolina – I add a little bit of coconut shreds. It's on water, but you can try milk too – if you won't fart.
Earlier on you prepare a strong-ass-coffee and put em' biscuits in that. Only on one side and only for a moment.
That's it. You align the biscuits, put some semolina on that and repeate. Cacao topping and off it goes to the fridge. But make sure it had cooled down.
Extra:
If you have some fantasy you can try some canned peaches. On the very bottom, or if you cut them into small pieces, they could go along any layer. But do not boil them with semolina! In the summer time, it is great to put on a raspberry. You can also try some chessnuts and almonds – but that's for those of you who love the extras. If you have mascarpone chees, put that in too, goddamn, it also makes it great.
The history of Schlieman is just a tiny bit of what I experienced during the classes of Monika Rekowska "The history of archeology and the interest in antiquity ("Historia archeologii i zainteresowania sztuką starożytną") during my History of Arts studies at the University of Warsaw.
Except Troi and Schliemann, I learned about eleginism (as Sir Elegin really took away a lot of Greek art to United Kingdom), the acts of stealing from Egypt (and the Egyptomania) along with the idea that mumies cure sickness, the discovery of Pompei – the poor folks really got the volcano hit hard, the discovery of Petra by Burckhardt (and this is one of the most outstanding views ever), the discovery of the Rosetta Stone by Pierre Bouchard (which helped understand the hieroglyphs), the adventures of Julius Słowacki to Egipt, Tyszkiewicz, the collection of Potocki and the night-time excavations of Mikołaj Krzysztof Radziwił.
Times are strange, sometimes you should use some sugar.
I hope Schliemann won't be angry. It is really tasty.
